story

For this assignment we had to create a story using at least 8 photos. For my story I decided to just take what was going on in my life. My sister and mom happened to be coming for the weekend so…

Peyton (my sister) arrives at Elon University.
Lori Beck arrives to elon and hugs Itsy before me.
Sydney and Peyton do their makeup to go out.
Sydney annoys Peyton so now no more photos.
Mom wants her photo taken though!!
Peyton manages to make a mess of Sydney’s room before packing up.
Sydney doesn’t want then to leave and closes the trunk on mom.
Peyton and mom leave and Sydney cries.

Portraits

For this assignment, we had to take 5 portraits all in different settings while also mimicking one portrait by a famous photographer.  I chose Brandon Hesson’s beach portrait to mock because I liked the pose of the model in it. This was located at the beach but, since I am in college I found it hard to find different backgrounds considering, in my opinion, a lot of campus looks very similar.  I tried to take pictures from different angles, framing different things, putting the subject at different heights, and playing around with the lighting. I found that I had to take a bunch of photos of the same thing in order to find the perfect ones Once I decided which ones I wanted then I color corrected them: exposure, levels, contrast, and brightness.  All and all I found taking portraits to be a difficult task because it is hard to get you subject in the perfect place and then perfect light, one false move and it could be ruined. If I could do this again I would pay more attention to the angle I am shooting from.

I took this photo of Peyton and Lori Beck by having them walk away and then look back similar to Brandon Hesson’s photo.  The background may be different and the pose had my unique twist on it but in my opinion, I could see the resemblance.
I took this photo of Max Mrus at Elon University by turning off all the lights and putting twinkle lights in front of his face.  Then I got very close and snapped away.
took this photo of Lori Beck by adding extra light with the mirror and then standing off to the side so I would not be in the photo.  This one was the hardest to do since I kept accidentally getting in the photo. It took a very particular angle not to be in it.
I took this photo of Max Mrus as a headshot.  I had him sit down and then came from the front to capture a close up of his face.
I took this photo by putting my subject Peyton Beck on a ledge while I stood on a lower platform.  I then snapped from an angle that you can obviously see you are looking up at her.

For all of these photos, I put them into photoshop and then copied a new layer so I always have a fresh one to compare what work I have done.  After I finished that then I started playing with the application by cropping some of the photos. Then, I decided to try something a little more technical.  So, I went into adjustments and changes the brightness and contrast. Once, I had set those I went back into adjustments and played with the levels. I would move the RGB, and then the red, blue and green individually. I moved them the little points at the bottom to the left and the right until I got the correct color I wanted.  I also went into the exposure and touched up if something was overexposed and played with the curves which also changes the RGB, and then the red, blue and green individually.

5 objects

The first object I picked is my mommy pillow.  My mommy pillow is a person-shaped pillow that my mom gave me when I was leaving for sleep-away for the first time.  I was 9 years old and my mom would kiss both sides of the pillow so whenever I got homesick I had a piece of her with me.  I chose to put nothing in the background and to take a photo from above almost an ariel view because there is nothing that compares to my stuffed animals and I didn’t want there to be anything in the composition or framing that could take away from that.
The second object I picked is my elephant Itsy.  My dad gave me my elephant when I was leaving for college so that if I ever was sad or homesick I have something that reminds me of home and him.  I already had the mommy pillow when I got the elephant so not I have a piece of both parents at school with me. I chose to frame the elephant the same way as the mommy pillow because as I stated before there is nothing that compares to my stuffed animals and I didn’t want there to be anything in the composition or framing that could take away from that.
The third object I picked is my bracelets because they were my moms when she was younger.  My mom was actually visiting this weekend and I was going to make the photo of her wearing the bracelets and them close to her face.  This would not work because bracelets are so tiny and have so much detail that I found adding a person into the photo created too much going on and took focus away from what the object is.
he fourth object I picked is my ring.  I ED to Elon University at the beginning of my senior year of high school.  I always wanted this ring and when I got into this school my mom surprised me with him.  Again I found that it was best just to do a close up of a hand with the ring on it because rings are so tiny and have so much detail that I found adding a person into the photo created too much going on and took focus away from what the object is.
The last object I took a picture of was my retainers.  I chose this object because those have been with me and worn for the last 6 years.  Getting braces in middle school was so cool I remember but by the end, I wanted them off.  Then I had to wear awful neon pink retainers to keep my teeth in place. I chose to place gum next to the retainers in the frame because I thought it was ironic since that is a big no, no food when you have braces.

5o Photos bottom 10

I feel as if these photos are my bottom ten and worst photos.  I think this because most of them are either over or underexposed making the photos too bright or too dark to really see the composition and object o4r objects being captured.  Also, I picked these as my bottom ten because some of the pictures are not framed right. The object I wanted to capture in the center was off to the side and some object did not even make it into the photos.

50 Photos 1-10

For this assignment, we had to take fifty photos, and in those photos, we had to rank them 1-5 stars. These photos  I think that these are my top ten because they are properly exposed, the framing and background are relevant to the composition.  You can tell from these photos that this is a kitchen of most likely a dorm room. Not only that but, the colors that are present in this photo are bright and distinct.
